Useful Tip - Putting an Alpaca down

Culling Alpaca

From time to time it is necessary to cull an alpaca from your herd. Alpaca can be eaten; it is a very lean meat and is a fundamental part of South American diet.

If you have been considering having to put one of your alpacas down, for reasons other than disease, you may wish to consider getting it butchered and eating it.

However, you may not be able to bare the thought of eating ‘fluffy’ or ‘princess’; why not try swapping butchered animals with another alpaca owner. I have heard of this being done most successfully. Owners that could not bring themselves to eat the animals they had reared were able to enjoy the unique experience of tasting the amazing meat that the alpaca offers up by swapping animals with a neighbour.
