Suri fleece has the most beautiful, silky, lustrous, sheen and soft handle. It is exquisite to touch and hold and even more impressive when made into a garment. It is much stronger and warmer than wool (research has shown that Suri is second only to Polar Bear fur in its thermal properties).

Suri has very low allergenic properties due in part to its low lanolin content. Several people who normally suffer with allergies when handling animals have visited Sonric Suri Alpacas, engaged with the animals, felt the fleece, handled the product, and been astonished at the lack of allergic reaction.

Processing the Fleece
Spinning Suri fleece is a little tricky and requires a bit of practice. We have been advised that it needs to be “spun hard” and is best as a “worsted yarn”.

Rosemary found that once she had knitted her first garment with our beautiful Suri yarn she was addicted to using it.
When woven into fabric, Suri fleece is at its most stunning, showcasing its glorious lustre, soft handle and fabulous drape properties. This is where we envisage the bulk of our fleece being used.

We have recently had some woven samples produced. Here is what the weaver had to say …
“Weaving with Suri fibre was pure pleasure, very nice to work with, feels very silky and the finished samples feel and look very nice indeed. You are on the right track there!”

“I am allergic to just about every other natural fibre I have woven with but found that this was not the case with Suri. I wish to make myself a scarf of pure Suri.”
