For new breeders wishing to enter the Suri Alpaca industry, the opportunities have never been better. With the total Suri population being less than 5% of the International Alpaca herd, the Suri Alpaca are still very rare and sought after. The majority of Suri breeders in NZ have small herds (fewer than 15), so, there are still extensive opportunities for new breeders to enter the industry and to stamp their mark.
This stud phase of the NZ alpaca industry is an exciting time for new Suri Alpaca breeders to enter the NZ Suri community. Whether you own land, or not, or just want Suri alpacas as an investment or you own some land and want an easy care livestock with good opportunity for financial return, then Suri alpacas are definitely the way to go. Breeding and showing Suri alpacas is also an excellent way to become part of the NZ Alpaca Industry.
